Lauren Arce, MSN, RN, CNL, OCN, Integrative Medicine Nurse Coordinator
As a UF student Lauren studied psychology, but a lifelong love of dance brought her to UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine. Here she discovered how the arts could bridge the gap between what is medically necessary and spiritually needed in times of illness. In 1999 she began working for AIM as an Artist in Residence/Coordinator. She completed the UF Center for Arts in Medicine Dance in Healthcare Certificate, and went on to become a registered nurse and help form a groundbreaking employment model, the first of its kind in the fields of nursing and Arts in Healthcare. It is in this role that Lauren embodied the notion of nursing as an improvisational art, demonstrating expertise in nursing practice while intuitively applying creative solutions in situations where standards do not apply.
With the onset of the UF Health Integrative Medicine Program, Lauren’s desire to assist others in embracing creativity and wellness as paths to discover life meaning and achieve optimal quality of life has come full circle. She maintains a special interest in helping patients, families, and healthcare staff make and sustain positive lifestyle changes, recognizing that the foundation for health and healing resides within.
In her personal life, Lauren enjoys taking pictures, cooking, exercising, walking on the beach, and most of all spending time with her family including her four – yes four – rescued pups.
