Rooted in the local Gainesville area, Shera’s artistic journey, initially cultivated in the church, has matured on a collegiate level, encompassing a diverse range of styles such as ballet, modern, salsa, and West African dance.
Beyond the realm of dance, Shera has devoted herself to meaningful community engagement, bringing her expertise to the field of education with a specialization in special education. As a sign language facilitator for seven years, she played a crucial role in fostering communication and inclusivity.
In the non-profit sector, Shera assumed pivotal roles as a program director and community specialist, channeling her artistic spirit into initiatives that not only celebrated the arts but also positively impacted public health and well-being. Her projects were characterized by a commitment to building bridges for access, fostering connections to ensure program sustainability, and addressing community needs, including homelessness.
Shera’s dedication to making a difference extended to her role as a student mentor, where she inspired and guided the next generation in the realms of social change and community engagement. Having navigated the transformative power of the arts in my recovery, I am committed to extending that healing journey to others.
