Using the arts as a tool for coping and processing tough health situations is a go-to for Terrence Ho, a visual artist and comic creator who was born at Alachua General Hospital in 1987.
Now, as an artist who has undergone innumerable blood lab draws, infusions, and other health procedures at multiple UF Health clinics, Terrence is using the arts once again to process a particularly poignant emotion: gratitude.
With a collection of sketches and comics made while on the receiving end of such treatments, Terrence intends to share his gratitude with those who administered them–nurses, physicians, technicians, and more.
“I am constantly drawing. This exhibit is the result of that practice—an initially unintentional record of healthcare chronicled with live drawings done in the moment. While the comic created for UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine is driven by my own story, my main hope for the exhibition is to convey and multiply my appreciation for everyone at UF Health and beyond who cares for us when we are sick, confused, desperate, resigned, or resolute.”
