Carolina “Caro” Alzate is a professional Birth and Postpartum Doula and Birth Educator that integrates art as a way of supporting birth preparation as well as birth healing. Caro believes that incorporating art in the perinatal process allows a mother to connect with herself and her baby in a unique and powerful way. Caro’s main mediums that she incorporates in her birth art processes are clay and soft pastels, and has begun to integrate fiber arts as well.
Caro holds a degree in Anthropology and is a permaculture designer and educator. Through her work with UF Shands’ Arts in Medicine, Caro creates art with expectant parents seeking health support at the OB Mobile outreach Clinic. In addition, she works with the Rural Women’s Health Project and is training to become a Non-Violent Communication mediator. All of her work is based on how we can enhance life by promoting harmonious connections to each other and to the earth, the natural elements, and the life processes that we are a part of.
