Rebecca Pethes is a vocalist, songwriter and music educator who joined the Arts in Medicine team in 2017. She holds an M.M. in Vocal Performance from Bowling Green State University and her wide-ranging musical interests have led her to perform in various genres, from singer-songwriter originals at local venues, sacred choral music at historical churches, to opera arias on the international stage.
Rebecca relocated to Gainesville in 2011 and established her music studio, in which she teaches children, adolescents and adults. As a certified yoga instructor, she uses her background in holistic health to promote bodily awareness, mindfulness, and healing within her studio and in her own creative practice. She is dedicated to exploring how music in community settings improves well-being and successfully organized student recitals, songwriter events and benefits to involve and inspire her local community in the creative process.
At the hospital, Rebecca works with pediatric and adult patient populations, singing songs at patients’ bedsides to uplift and humanize the clinical environment. Rebecca is a Mental Health Counseling intern and student in the Graduate Certificate in Arts in Medicine at the University of Florida. Rebecca is a member of the Association for Creativity in Counseling and a passionate advocate for the use of creativity and the arts in mental health.
