
Maggie Clifford, PhD, is a songwriter, musician, professor and researcher. Her music has been featured in documentary films, including the Grammy-nominated Elvis biopic called The King (2017) and Brazilian director Petra Costa’s first feature length film called ELENA (2013). She is currently visiting faculty in the Center for Arts in Medicine at the University of Florida where she teaches courses in the Music in Medicine undergraduate certificate program.
Maggie’s work as an artist practitioner with Shands AIM is informed by more than two decades as an international performing artist who intentionally draws upon music’s unique influence as a universal communication tool in her songwriting and performance work. Her doctoral research focuses on the meanings and significance of climate change across social contexts and she applies insights from this research into her songwriting and community engagement. Maggie earned an MS from the University of Florida in Environmental Education and Communication (2016), and a doctorate from the School of Communication at American University (2024). She was born and raised in Rochester, NY and has lived in Gainesville, FL since 2014.
