Erin’s involvement with Arts in Medicine began as a volunteer in 2010, shadowing then musician in residence Danielle DeCosmo, and providing patients soothing, lyrical music. Erin would return to AIM as a high school graduate and serve as the program’s receptionist and program assistant during school breaks from Stetson University, where she received her BA in Religious Studies.
After a time spent traveling, creating, and working in Western North Carolina, Erin returned to AIM’s administrative team in 2018. Erin then earned a graduate certificate in Social Media from the UF College of Journalism and Communications, which aids her in effectively telling the stories of the Arts in Medicine program and those it impacts.
Now serving as the program’s first-ever Communications and Grants Specialist, Erin’s responsibilities include internal and external communications; editing, copywriting and social media account management; photography and videography; grant writing; graphic design; and visual arts programming support.
Why Arts in Medicine?
Erin continues to observe first-hand the benefits of the arts in her community and in her personal life. Both as a scholarly passion and as creative outlets, she has pursued the arts through flute performance in her grade-school years, and now through experimenting with various visual and digital arts mediums, singing with her family at local venues, and slowly but surely learning to play the guitar and mandolin.
Erin believes that no matter the skill level, and often with the right assistance, anyone can channel their innate creativity and let it guide them to an artistic medium they enjoy. She is proud to assist in providing those interactions through her role with AIM.
