My Vibrant Island: A Coloring Book by Kinsey Bogart

UF Health Shands Arts in Medicine empowers pediatric patients to creatively tell their own stories. Working with professional artists, patients use the arts to normalize their hospital experience, find comfort, make meaning out of difficult circumstances, and to have fun! Often these engagements between artists and patients span the entire course of treatment, which can last days, weeks, or years. It is a privilege for our artists in residence to get to know these young artists through their beautiful creations.

Teen artist Kinsey Bogart created this vibrant work with artist in residence Sarah Hinds over many months in pediatric dialysis, on pediatric inpatient units, and even virtually. Artist in residence Ricky Kendall took Kinsey’s original paintings and digitally transformed them into coloring pages.

Artist’s Statement:

My name is Kinsey Bogart. I am a young artist. I have been coming to UF Health since I was eight months old and have spent a lot of time here. I started making art because I was bored in the hospital.

I started by coloring and then I learned to paint with the Arts in Medicine program. I like to paint with acrylics, make mosaics, color with gel pens and do diamond paintings. When I’m not at the hospital or making art, I like to hang out with friends, sing, dance, watch YouTube videos, and go to Disney. I’ve been through so much in my life, but I try to always stay positive.

I hope you enjoy my art!
