Call to UF Health employee artists: take your ‘shot’

062928_012

In 2008, UF Health asked its employees to share their “art” in the form of photography with the patients and families we serve. The response was impressive and as a result, employee photographs adorn the walls of UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital. This wildly successful effort was replicated not only in other UF Health facilities, but other health facilities around the US.

Because of these past successes, and because UF Health is filled with creative employees, we invite you to do it again!

Simply enter your photos in our latest “Call to Artists” and they will be considered for use in the UF Health Heart and Vascular and UF Health Neuromedicine Hospitals opening in late 2017.

What is this call about?

At UF Health, creativity and art are part of our culture of care.  When we open the new hospitals, we want our “Art on the Walls” program to feature photographs taken by UF Health employees – one photograph in each patient room – to highlight our hidden talents, as well as positively impact the patient environment.

What photographs are eligible?

Just as there is evidence-based medicine, there is also evidence-based art.  Research demonstrates that properly constructed images can calm and soothe the viewer and act as a care tool unto themselves.  We are looking for:

Landscapes that have 1) some horizon showing, 2) some open space, 3) some trees, 4) low growth (flowers or bushes or tall grasses), 5) sky with fair weather, and, importantly,  6) very few, if any, man-made objects or buildings. Fresh water may also be included.

Here is an example:

Please do not submit photos of family and friends or other portraits, pictures dominated by animals or insects, or abstract images.
